I almost got run over by a schoolbus!

(No Ratings Yet) Loading ...I almost got smashed by a schoolbus at lunch today. Well it wasn’t my fault! I stopped in the right hand lane in slow traffic to let a car turn in front of me coming from the other direction, and when I looked up into my rear view mirror, I saw the grille of a school bus pummeling towards me. The driver slammed on his brakes and came within probably millimeters of hitting my trunk. He was either tailgating me or driving way too fast and not watching where he was going. I thought I was going to get hit! Then he lays on his horn like its my fault! And as I turned off the road, he drove past and honked at me again! At that point I wanted to stop my car in the middle of the road, walk out there and get up in his window and demand his name, bus number and license plate info. I hate to see that kind of stuff, these people drive vehicles full of kids! I felt like practicing some Steven Segal moves I saw in a movie! 
So Hillsborough County bus drivers beware! I’m fed up now, and will take extra effort to write down your info and file formal complaints. Grrrr!
You do know that you may have been in the wrong, where I come from you are not aloud to stop to let oncoming traffic make a turn infont of you, if they don’t have the right of way. You can not stop the flow of traffic just to be nice. Were you at a marked intersection? Think about it, what if the bus decided to pass you in the left lane the other car turning would have been smucked. Did you check you rearview mirror befor stopping to make sure it was safe and there were no tailgaters not even a bus that may not be able to stop? If you were turning right yourself did you signal ahead of time to let the motorist behind know your intentions? Remember these bus drivers are watching more than just the road. If you believe you are right and the bus driver was following too close or speeding than you just call the company and complain to them, I am sure they must know where their buses are durning the day. If the bus would have hit you, then you need to ask yourself “Was there anything I could have done to prevent it from happening?”

Thank you for your comment Cindy, but I can tell you honestly that there was no flow of traffic. It was stop and go and there was a backup right in front of me. This bus driver was not paying attention. Also this is a two lane section of road where there are two lanes in each direction, both lanes on my side of the road were backed up, the left lane was completely stopped. While I feel like I’m being quizzed on my knowledge of the road, I do appreciate public interaction on my blog. Thanks for reading and posting the comment!
